Acupuncture for Women's Health

Very few women go through life without any discomfort before or during their periods. For many it is often the "grit teeth and get on with it" week in their cycle. But for some it is a seriously debilitating week (often longer) when the pain and discomfort is so severe that life has to be put on hold. No one should have to put up with this sort of hell each month. Medication is frequently prescribed but the symptoms may still be pretty unbearable and few people relish the idea of taking any medication on a long term basis. I went to school with someone who's period pain was so severe that the colour would drain from her face until it took on a green-ish hue, and then she would pass out. Most women have suffered or know someone who has suffered similarly and it is truly awful.
Period pain responds well to acupuncture treatment, whether it be mild discomfort or severe, immobilizing pain. Stems and Branches acupuncture aims to treat the imbalance/imbalances, within a woman's body, that give rise to the symptoms of pain, cramps, heavy or scanty flow, mood swings, etc. The number and frequency of treatments required varies, as each of us is individual. Often, the pain can respond virtually immediately but a number of treatments may be required to bring about a lasting, month to month, change in the symptoms. Regulating and balancing the menstrual cycle can also promote fertility and conception.
Being a natural function of the healthy female body our menstrual cycles should come and go without marked discomfort but if you are bothered by any symptoms you may wish to consider acupuncture as an effective alternative to medication.
