Infertility
It is currently thought that around 15% of women in developed countries are having difficulty conceiving.  There are of course numerous reasons for this and there could well be a case for treating both partners when fertility issues arise.

Orthodox medicine now provides a range of treatments such as fertility drugs, I U I (intra-uterine insemination), I V F (in vitro fertilization), GI F T (gamete intrafallopian transfer), etc.  However, many couples are finding these to be both physically and emotionally invasive and very stressful.  Consequently they are looking elsewhere for more natural and less traumatic treatments.  Acupuncture can be a useful adjunct to the orthodox treatments for infertility and it may also be used as a stand-alone treatment.  Recent studies involving acupuncture have been very encouraging in this field but acupuncture has been used  successfully by the Chinese for infertility for more than 2000 years and the anecdotal evidence is substantial.

Whether used alongside orthodox treatments or by itself acupuncture can address the physical , mental and emotional symptoms surrounding infertility as well as ease the possible side-effects of fertility drugs.

Many couples find acupuncture extremely supportive at this time, not least because it helps them to cope with their heightened stress levels.
